SUMER CAMPUS

Sumer Campus

Turkey's first and largest facilities located in Kayseri Industrial Cloth Factory Sümerbank campus in 2012 has been allocated to AGU. As a result of the works carried out in the open and closed areas of the campus, it is used by both university students and those living in the city.

Planning, projecting and new building, restoration, maintenance-repair works and re-functioning works in the campus area are carried out by our Department. Due to the historical importance of the area and its being registered, all projects and construction works are carried out in coordination with the Kayseri Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board.

AGU develops a new university model with an education and research approach that focuses on producing "social benefit". This approach requires spaces that allow them to think, discuss and produce together. Within this framework, AGU has adopted the principle of structuring in an "open campus" arrangement where the use of classrooms, workshops, laboratories, library and social areas are redefined in communication with each other.

In line with these principles, the Rectorate, Administrative and Classrooms Building was the first building we built in the Sumer Campus and started to serve in 2014. With the preservation of the structure of the unregistered Cotton Warehouse building built in 1964 and the other related sections, the building has a closed area of 15,000 m2 in total.

In 2016, the restoration works of the Great Warehouse Building and Fire Station and Office Buildings were completed and put into service. There are workshops, classroom, office and dining hall areas in the Great Warehouse Building, while there are different functions such as the student center, restaurant and office areas in the Fire Department and Office Buildings.

The most comprehensive restoration project in the campus area is the Main Factory Building with an area of 35,000 m2. Planning and projecting stages have been studied meticulously, and the construction work continues with certain stages. Some of them were put into service as classrooms and office spaces.
